So I am trying this new diet call the Danish Diet, also known as the Copenhagen Diet, and the 13 Day Royal Danish Hospital Diet. My sister-in-law has just completed this diet to the tee, and she has lost nearly 10lbs. This is her email to me:
亲爱的,我吃这食谱这两个星期减了7、8斤,… 有个朋友按这个食谱瘦了12斤 [Translation: My dearest, I followed this menu for two weeks and lost 9-10lbs, I have another friend who also lost over 13lbs]
After her raving reviews, I am determined to give this a try. I mean, when you hear someone who is close to you lose 10lbs in 2 weeks with a diet, it doesn’t take much convincing to try it especially if you’re a girl who already has a little bit of padding (or in my case, quite a bit of padding) that you need/would like to lose.
Base on my internet googling, the diet lasts thirteen days and promises the loss of up to twenty-six pounds. However, it is a VERY strict diet: any kind of deviation from the menu stops the diet and prevents its resumption for the following six months. If the diet is stopped after six days, it may be resumed after three months. For the diet, the green salad must be always fresh, the yogurt 100% natural, without any fruits, and hunger may be avoided by drinking water. The coffee may or may not be replaced by tea, so base on my own judgement, I am going to swap coffee out with oolong tea (which is also high in caffeine but with no additives) and cod with trout or skate. I would only recommend this diet to people who are perfectly healthy, not pregnant, or menstruating. As with any diets, it is highly recommended that you do not binge the day after diet, as this is the fastest way to gain the weight you lost back.
I am going to start this next Monday, I’ll post my progress in a follow up post throughout the two week, hopefully I will have enough will power and perseverance to power through the 13 days! If you have tried this diet, and also the tomato soup 7 day detox diet, let me know which one you like more, and how it works in comparison in the comments section!

What 1/2 chicken means?how many grams? 😀
half of an entire chicken, hope this helps.
I have eat 150g of boild or grilled chicken breast
i have tried this diet and it really is amazing, it has worked wonders for me,,,
Same here guys!!
is it really work, will people recognize u losing weight or not??
It does work really good but I have devided all grams by half and I have only eat one toast per week. which made me loose 9.5kg in 13 days.
I am also on this diet and lost and 4th day lost 3kg (63.7 kg now). I am glad to see fast results. It really works and I eat toast strictly what is written on menu, as body should get grains – food pyramid. Honestly, it is hard… I feel weak and just wanted to ask – do you also feel same guys. It is normal as consumption of daily calories are little. So I try to eat as late as possible lunch…. Do you take any extra food supplements or vitamins in order to boost energy- if yes – what kind? thank you
It dose work , I tried it several years ago. however after it you have to be very careful what you eat, not to have yo-yo effect!
Hello, I was wondering if the brand of all the food/ drink matters?
no it dosen’t matter
I don’t eat eggs, is there a substitute available?
想问一下,,我第十天的时候在餐外吃了两个巧克力汤圆,但是事后就将它们吐出来了,lz觉得这个哥本哈根减肥法还能继续吗。。。。好后悔
因该没关系

Good luck, I am also on this diet right now 🙂
I can’t eat ham – any substitute ?
I have just finished this diet, after 13 days total loss for me is 11.1 lbs – 5 kg
I replaced the ham with chicken and had around 330 grams of meat instead of 200 or 250 gr.
I am well happy with the results therefore i am going to continue eating healthy. keep you updated 🙂
Great news! Congrats Maya!
Hi! You can go with turkey, or chicken!^^
100Grams=3.5 ounces, a woman in our office just lost 17 lbs in 13 days, my wife and I are now on it, day3 for me..I am down 5.5 lbs
Are you allowed milk in your morning coffee??
No.black coffee+1 lump of sugar..
I did it in 1999 and amazingly it works and last approximately 10 years. Between that 10 years, I married and been through two pregnancy which I gained more than 25kg on each pregnancy. Alhamdulillah, I can still maintain my weight around 54 – 55 kg. Before the diet I was 60kg. And now I’m gaining my weight back. I thought of do it again in 2015… Thank You girl for sharing the menu, I’ve lost mine.
Hi,
I’m assuming you will be replacing the ham (like me), and was wondering what you will eat instead.
Thanks,
is the beef (roast) similar to broiled steak?
Hi Toni, I think as long as you choose a lean cut of beef, it should be fine.
Hi people, l need help.l dont eat celery, which vegetable can l eat in place of it?
And also is it strictly coffee on first day coz l take tea.please help
Celery is a must. For “boiled celery + tomato” I did the following: boiled celery + veggie spices, threw it in the blender together with a fresh tomato, added a pinch of powdered chilli +curry .let it cool a bit. The spiciness takes away the celery taste. Still trying to find a way how to eat the raw one….
Hey everyone. Day 4 completed. 9 more to go…2 kilos lost so far…not sure how many inches though 🙂 takes alot of fat to match 1 kg. No breaking the rules, no complaining about replacement options, just sticking to the menu. Toughest day for me will be tomorrow,no coffee + fish (yuk). But I’ll battle it. No problems during the day, tough time in the evening_ that’s the only time I feel hungry and very weak (for the record I was a no breakfast,no lunch, big dinner person…).
On day nine I feel like quitting but no, 5 days to go…..
Hi all. I’m starting this diet on Thursday and see what happens. They say your result depends on your starting weight. The more you have to lose the more you will. Is this true?
What can i replace ham with?
Would like an answer as soon as possible so i can start my diet, thank you
no replacement
Tofu, I used tofu
May I ask of which meat I could use as a substitute for lamb?
no replacement allowed
Hi what can i use for the fish , i don’t mind tuna, hake or pilchards but the others NO, can i substitute? I am currently trying the cabbage soup diet and thought if this really works to take a one week break and to try this diet for 13 days… Can i skip the sugar as i already drink black coffee?
Thank you and well done to everyone…
I really want to try this diet but i do not eat beef steak, ham, fish. I need the substitues. Can i eat chicken instead, please suggest
Can I take multivitamin supplements while on this diet?
I am starting this diet today, can I drink more coffee (black) during the day?
Hi there, I can see so many people are getting benefits from this post. I am gaining weight by sitting all day at job and really want to try this but I don’t eat beef, fish, steak, ham etc. Can someone suggest me any alternatives of this. I can eat egg and chicken though. It would be really appreciated if someone can help me in this. Can’t wait to try it out
if i dont drink coffee, what can i substitute it with?
Hey every1. Just to encourage you. This diet worked wonderfully, I tried it in April last year and lost a little over 6kgs/13lbs and continued to loose now a total of 18kgs. Am now doing it again on day 2 replacing the ham with skinless chicken.
Ruthie, how did you keep loosing weight after the diet?
Did you keep the diet program? I heard that more than 13 days might give adverse effect.
Please let me know how you kept lost more weight after the diet program.
Thanks.
Hey Eun Yong, I was really watching what i eat after the diet but to be honest i dint strain. I believe the diet kick starts your system and your body no longer retains the much it did b4. I couldn’t finish it the 2nd time round and caved on day 7 (water only ☺)
I kept all junk food away. Am in kenya so vegetables are in plenty and would go whole weeks on veges only. Now i eat normally (smetimes more than i shld) and i have still managed to maintain the weight
Can I substitute fish instead of meat?:)
I don’t see why not! Good luck.

Ham alternatives PLEASE…
Turkey?
oh wow! nice to hear it worked for guys. I am on day 2 and loving it already… psyching myself to the finish line. I am starting at 82 kg, and I figured this would be a great way to get me out of the 80’s curse 🙂
do the eggs have to be hard boiled? Or can they be scrambled? I hate hard boiled eggs!!
How about poaching them? I think as long as you don’t add anything to scrambling it, it should be fine!
It is allowed to use salt? In some pages day say no in some yes. So , how you did?
What is everyone eating when it says green salad?
Can we replace carrots with cucumber ?
Can I use salt and pepper in this diet or any other condiments, ie mustard??
Unfortunately, you can’t Karen
From: http://www.medguru.ie/healthy-living/diets/copenhagen-diet—strict-rules-and-obvious-results/
Rules you must follow:
1. Diet lasts only 13 days.
2. You should eat only three times a day, always at the same time: breakfast is recommended to be eaten before 9 am, lunch between 12 am and 2 pm, and dinner between 5 pm and 6 pm.
3. It is crucial to eat only those products which are listed in the menu and not to replace them by any means.
4. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day.
5. Do not use any salt or any other spices.
6. Do not drink alcohol, eat sweets or other snacks.
7. Fried food is strictly forbidden.
8. If you make a mistake after 6 days of dieting, it is necessary to terminate the diet; you can start dieting again no sooner than three months after the termination. Otherwise you will not achieve the best result.
9. It is possible to change the order of lunch and dinner, but you cannot change the order of days.
10. It is recommended to take vitamins and minerals to prevent nutrient deficiency.
11. If you successfully complete your diet, you can repeat it after 2 years.
12. After completion of the diet, the calorie intake should be increased gradually in order to avoid caloric shock and unwanted weight gain.
Perhaps interesting for readers of this blog.
All you need is HALF:
Hi i accidentally had 1 cup of yogurt and 1 slice of ham on the third day for lunch instead of 1 slice of ham, with 1 cup of lettuce and 2 hard-boiled eggs. is that still fine?
What do you think you can use in place of the dairy foods? Soy yoghurt has so much sugar.
Has anyone tried this successfully with protein substitutions? Tofu only? Or all fish instead of beef?
I will suck it up if I have to, but definitely cannot have dairy.
I’m on day 9 and I haven’t lost anything 😢. I strictly followed all the rules. Instead of weight loss I had my periods. Help !!!!
Hi there! Don’t know if someone will read this someday, but I’m doing this diet at the moment, and on the morning of the 9th day, I’ve lost 14,110 Lbs/ 6,4kg! 4 days to go! Can’t wait! But needless to say, it’s really restrictive! You need to be mentally prepared, to do that!
I began this diet weighing 88.5kg (194 lbs) for 1m75, now, I’m 81,9 (178,6 lbs), on the 9th day.
I get hungry what can I eat in between
Hi Lau, I am gonna try it out!
I am 172 67kg….. hope I lose 6-7kg with this plan ..
Starting January 1st…lets see how this goes
Completed the first week and have lost 7lbs. I was 13stone all last year, I lift weights four days a week and eat clean. I have tried all year to loose my belly fat without success. On this diet I substituted chicken breast for the beef and cottage cheese instead of a half cup of yoghurt on day two. I am continuing for the next week as it seems the belly fat is the last to go and the first back. I will add that I suffered no I’ll effects with the diet until day seven which is very strict, I had a bit of an headache ( which might have not been because of the diet) so I ate an apple and a handful of sultanas. In spite of my deviations I still lost seven lbs in seven days. Good luck everyone.
Hey I’ve got a quick question. I wanted to start this diet but I hate coffee and can’t stand it. Can I replace it with some kind of tea?
3 years ago I lost about a stone (14lb) on this diet. I’ve done it again and am doing it again now. Slight difference is that day 4 and 11 I could have cheese with carrot rather than fruit bowl. I melted a camembert round and dipped in carrot. yum.
I did season all meat with good salt and pepper before cooking as cooking salt takes away what is bad for you about it. I used lovely sirloin steaks in a small piece of butter, roast pork chops or chicken instead of pork. Also honey instead of sugar on toast. It did still work really well for me with my belly shrinking and made it more bearable. I do think it is about the calories and high quality protein and veg.
Thanks for sharing sarah! glad it worked out so well for you. Great substitutions!
Nice article
