The Tomato Soup 7-day Detox Method

Dec 13, 2018 Update: I am not very good at responses. I’ve updated my WordPress notification so it’s now telling me someone leaves a comment and will try to respond as quick as I can!
 —————————————
My friend Maisee was nice enough to give me the recipe – she has lost over 25lbs doing this detox method twice now. First time she did this detox method she lost 15lbs.  Second time she lost 10lbs.   I figured that maybe i’ll just retype the darn thing and share it with the world.  Hope you’ll find success!
Warning: If eaten alone longer than the intended 7 days, you will suffer malnutrition. I DO NOT recommend extending this diet more than 7 days at a time.   If you are determined to continue with this diet. I recommend going off for at least 5 days (eating normally but lightly), and hopping back on after 7 days.
No vegan/vegetarian substitutions.  The proteins prescribed in this diet provide specific nutrients that work exclusively with this diet.
I do not have an opinion or recommendation on taking supplements as that is outside of the 7-day diet.
Caffeine is ok, as long as you drink it straight and not doctored with cream and sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (or equivalent fresh tomatoes)
  • 6 large green onions
  • 1 onion
  • 1 bunch of celery
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 package of Lipton soup mix flavor of your choice
  • 1 can of beef broth (or homemade stock)
  • 2 green peppers
  • 2 lbs. of peeled carrots

Preparation

Cut the veggies into small to medium pieces.  Combined all of the ingredients above, add enough water to cover and let the soup simmer.  Season the soup with salt, pepper, curry, parsley, bullion, or hot sauce.

Bring to boil for 5 minutes, reduce to simmer and continue cooking until veggies are soft and tender.

Detox Guidelines

This soup can be eaten anytime you are hungry, and you can eat it as much as you want.  The more you eat, the more you’ll lose.  Don’t worry about the number of calories you are consuming.  Fill a thermos in the morning if you will be away during the day, and eat it as a meal.

Beverages: unsweetened juices, tea, coffee, and water.

By the end of the7th day, if you have not cheated on this diet, you should have lost at least 10-17lbs.  If you have lost more than 15lbs, stay off the diet for at least 7 days before resuming the detox for 7 more days.  This 7-day eating plan can be used as often as you like. If correctly followed, it will cleanse your system of impurities, and promote overall well-being as never before.  After only 7 days of this process is when you will begin to feel lighter, and healthier.  You will also gain an abundance of energy, along with weight loss.  Go off the diet at least 24 hours before any intake of alcohol.

Because everyone’s digestive system is different, this diet will affect each individual differently.  After day three, you will have more energy than when you began.  By day three, you will also find that your bowel movements have been changed – if required eat a cup of bran or fiber to alleviate any discomfort.  Although you can have black coffee on this diet, you may find that you don’t need the caffeine after the third day.  Many people report improved bowel activity on this diet, and you may try 1 tsp. of red psyllium three times a day between your fruit and veggies.

This basic fat burning soup can be eaten at any time you feel hungry.  Eat as much as you want, and remember, the more you eat, the more you will lose.  You can eat broiled or baked chicken instead of beef (no skin) if you prefer, and you can substitute baked fish for the beef only one of the beef days.  You will need the high protein in the beef for all the other days.

Any prescribed medication will not hurt you on this diet.  Continue the diet plan as long as you wish and feel the difference, both physically and mentally.  However, do not continue this diet indefinitely.

Last but not least, drink plenty of water!

Forbidden Foods

During this diet, alcohol is absolutely forbidden.  You should also not have any bread, white rice, pastas, carbonated drinks, as well as any dried or fatty foods.

Directions

Day 1

Eat any fruit except for bananas.  Cantaloupe and watermelons are your best choices because they are lower in calories than most other fruits.  Enjoy only soup and fruits for this day only.

Day 2

All vegetables are allowed on this day – eat till you’re stuffed with all the fresh, raw or canned veggies you can consume.  Try to eat leafy veggies and stay away from dry beans, peas, and corn. Eat the veggies along with the soup.  At dinner time, reward yourself with a baked potato and a little butter.  No fruit for this day.

Day 3

Eat all the soup, fruit, and vegetables you want.  Do not have a baked potato.  If you have eaten as above for three days and have not cheated along the way, you will have lost at least five to seven pounds.

Day 4

Bananas and skim milk should be incorporated into your diet today.   Eat least three bananas and drink as much skim milk you can today with the soup.  Banana and milk will provide your body the missing potassium, carbohydrate, protein, and calcium to lessen your craving for sweets.

Day 5

Lean beef/red meat and tomatoes should be incorporated into your diet today.  You may have 10 to 20oz of beef and a can of tomatoes or as many as six fresh tomatoes.  You may substitute the beef with chicken breast.  On this day, eat the soup at least once, more if you like.

Day 6

Beef (or chicken breast) and veggies should be incorporated into your diet today. Eat your heart’s content of the lean beef (or chicken breast) and veggies today.  You can have two to three lean steaks if you want but must be eaten with leafy green veggies on the side.  No baked potato today.  Be sure to eat the soup at least once today.

Day 7

Brown rice should be incorporated into your diet today. Unsweetened fruit juices and veggies are also allowed today. Eat as much soup as you can today — this is it! You’ve made it! Congrats on accomplishing this diet!

  1. lol..you’re too cute to re-type this here kit! thanks..i actually lost my recipe and i googled it and found that you retyped it! wish me luck again..i’m gonna detox!!!……Maisee

  2. it says 6 large green onions
then next ingrediant is 1 onion? what do you mean hear? and also does it matter if you dont get the same brands? say instead of lipton soup mix can i get another brand?
    cheeers
    =D =D

    • Hi Renee, green onions are different from regular onions. Green onions actually look more like chives, which is more like a herb, where as the next item is just regular large onions (red, yellow, or white works). I am sure it’s okay to use different soup mixes since it’s just a mix, and not additional calories. Let me know if you have any other questions!

  3. I am on day 4 now, I have not weighed myself as yet. Not cheated at all but not been eating soup more than once a day, is this a problem?
    Thanks

    • Justine, did you eat anything else? If you are eating nothing but the soup I guess that should be fine, but if you’re only eating it once a day, it might not be enough. Consider adding the second serving of soup, albeit small but still better than eating just once a day. Sometimes your body thinks you’re on “starvation” mode, it will burn less because you’re eating less.

  4. Quesiton my wife does not like vegetables….can they be pureed and then mixed into the soup or can she just not eat them…or what other options does she have

  5. Hi

I know it say’s unsweetened tea but Im addicted to tea with sugar and milk…If I am able to do everything else and keep my tea with sugar and milk would my results change much or change at all? I do understand I may not loose a whole lot compared to those who follow this recipe.

  6. Hi there, this detox looks great, currently on the 2nd day of the diet, I was wondering if we could use a salad dressing with the veggies

  7. at Jay, I have used saled dressing and it didn’t hurt my weight loss, i did this twice and the first time i lost 13lbs and the second time i lost 9

  8. Im starting this tomorrow does it have to be exact vegetables or can you use any green things in the fridge?

    • I think if you can exercise along with the diet, that will only yield better results. Saman are you talking about this detox post OR the denmark post in regards to the tomato and lean meat day?

  10. I know you need 6 green onions but what kind is the 7 red? White? I just made w 6 green and called it a day lol wow that’s a lot of onion!

    • I think we use the Lipton soup mix here because it’s easier to flavor the soup. I have cooked it a few times without the soup mix and it yields great results.

  11. Do I really need to add a soup mix? Would it be ok to not add that? Also can I add fresh basil? And some dried herbs? Can I add garlic ? how about zucchini or eggplant/ spinach to the soup or is that cheating? 🙂 will try this next week. Getting married in a few months 🙂 🙂

    • I think fresh basil and dried herbs are excellent addition choices. I wouldn’t do zucchini or eggplant as those two are very carb-heavy vegetables. The point of this diet is to reduce as much carb consumption as possible, and sometimes squashes contains a lot of it. Good luck Maria!

    • Personally I don’t think so as when I tried it I was eating it all the time (as she says eat it and take it with you) and for the cost its relatively cheap for vegetables etc so between 10-$15 AUD.

  13. Hi, I am preparing to start this diet on the 1st September 2013.
Is it possible to substitute the green peppers for yellow ones?
Or leave them out all together?

    Many thanks kate

  14. i accidentaly skipped day 5 and proceeded straight to day six, is it a big problem?

i also modified a bit a recipe of the soup, as i hate soups, and it’s really hard to get something edible for me.
    my modified soup

    – can of tomatoes
    – 6 green salad onions
    – 1 onion
    – 1 green pepper
    – 2 pears
    – dried herbs

i checked calories and nutritions for 2 pears is roughly not that different from what 2lb of peeled carrots would give and at least i like the taste. i eat it 1/2/3 times a day, because i actually quite like it and don’t feel hungry after it. i take my coffee with milk. i supplement solgar female multiple vitamins just in case.

i have not weighted myself yet because i wanted to do it after the whole diet. I started off with 132lbs, my height 5’3 and i’ve got big bust so on average I tend to weight 3/4kg more than average girl of my height as slim as me. i will let you know, the results of the modified version of the soup once i finish.
i do measure my waistline though. gone down from 70cm to 63cm.

i don’t even want a smashing 17lbs weight loss, therefore i allowed myself to alter the soup recipe a bit. if it’s at the cost of loosing 5lbs less, it’s fine with me.

skipping day 6 was an accident. i hope this would not influence a jojo effect or so.

this is day 7. i can confirm, i stopped having digestion problems and i do in fact feel lighter and healthier.

  15. I’m trying this diet right now and the sixth day is almost gone. My loss of weight is only 2lbs. I haven’t cheated on this diet. Maybe it’s because of the days when fruits are forbidden. I had nothing for breakfast.
    So I’m a bit disappointed!

  16. I made changes to this diet and saw
    Great results.
No beef- beef is heavy and not a diet food.
Used all organic and sodium and sugar free canned tomatoes.
    I puréed my vegetables.
It makes no sense to eat more lose more.

  17. Hello! I only started this diet today, but the soup is delicious! However, I was wondering if, as I have a mild allergy, it would be all right to replace the bananas with cantaloupe and spinach.

  18. Hi Kit – you look like you’ve never had to diet in your life. I’d like to lose about 5kgs and am going to start the diet tomorrow. Wish me luck! I’ll let you all know how I go. Sue

  19. I got all the ingredients needed for the soup today but I am curious if we have eat all of the other stuff required I am a vegetarian so I got veg stock instead of beef and what can I replace the beef meals with?

  20. hi-currently on day 4 of this diet-quick question, is this day bananas milk and soup ONLY or are we allowed other fruit and veg too! an answer from anyone would be greatly appreciated 🙂

  21. HI when you say eat the soup once in the day or more, comparing with the actual ingredients how much soup am I supposed to eat. I use a soup maker which makes the soup smooth rather than chunky.. As I drive for a living it works better this way for me to be able to drink it, which I do throughout the day as and when im hungry. Day 1 and 2 I have drunk the ingredients over a 2 day period as and when. Is this ok, if so how many mugs should i have when stated have your soup at least once on days 4 to 7.

    • Hi Ellen, have as MUCH as you want until you are full. The point of the diet is to keep you full but only full off of the limited ingredients – which is still low in calories. hope this helps!

  22. Just finish and lost 10lbs… awesome diet only thing that has worked 4 me. Was so easy to stick to. Only thing is I love me tea so I cut down to a herbal tea in the morning and my treat was a cuppa tea with sweetner at bedtime. I also had 1 slice low gi brown bread with my evening bowl of soup to keep the tummy working. THANK YOU!

  23. Hello there I am so thrilled I found your website, I really found you by accident, while I was looking
on Askjeeve for something else, Nonetheless I am here now and would just like
to say thanks for a tremendous post and a all round exciting blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have time to read it
all at the minute but I have book-marked it and also included your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read more, Please do keep up the awesome
    b.

  24. My husband and I are on day 5 and are confused. When you say “add” and “incorporate”, does this mean we can have milk, soup, bananas, fruits and veggies on top of the beef and tomatoes for day 5?

  25. Hi,
I would like to start this detox diet. In lieu of lipton mix what can I add as I would like to have as natural and organic my ingredients are.
Will this also affect my health should I incorporate exercises?

    Thank you,
    Berlinda

    • Try your grocery store’s natural foods section to see if there are soup mixes that are made with better options. If not, I think using a packet or two of this stuff won’t be that big of a deal, IMO. I am not sure how your body will react to this diet with exercise. If I were you, I would go easy with your normal exercise, make sure your body can handle it and not push it too hard.

  26. Hi , I am on day 5 of this diet , beef and tomatoes today , anyone have any ideas on how to spice up can tomatoes , I am planning on making a plain meatloaf with onions and putting diced canned tomatoes over top ??? , any ideas would be great , and is it just beef and tomatoes on day 5 , or can I add veggies , fruit etc???

  27. it’s very generous of you to share these detox methods. Thank you 🙂 I’m currently on the copenhagen diet now, would it be ok if I start this tomato soup diet maybe 2 days after I’ve done the cph diet ? I need to lose quite a lot of weight in order to prepare for my coming job interview.

    p.s. Happy Chinese New Year~~~~

  28. Hey Kit!

I’ve just started this soup diet today and had a few questions which I will be very thankful if you have the time to answer! I didn’t have any lipton soup mix nor vegetable stock, so I just made the soup with all the ingredients listed besides them two, is that ok? Also, I added salt red chilli herbs and garlic for flavour. Is that ok? X

  29. I have done this detox many times but for some reason this time I felt the best while doing it. Usually by day 4 I’m weak but not this time. As an added bonus I lost 7 pounds and still have two days to go!

  30. Hi I was wondering if it would be okay to workout during this diet? I workout 4 times a week, my workouts are usually 30-40 minutes long.

  31. Hi Kit

I’m just about to start the Tomato Soup diet but want to clarify a couple of things please:
Unless it states otherwise I can eat all the things on Day 5 that are incorporated on Day 4; the same on Day 6 and again on Day 7?
i.e. it says not to eat baked potato on Day 6 – does that mean I can eat it on day 4, 5 and 7?
Can I eat fruit and veg on Days 4 and 5? And fruit on Days 6 and 7?

    Many thanks

  32. I haven’t checked in here for some time because I thought it was getting boring, but the last few posts are great quality so I guess I will add you back to my everyday bloglist. You deserve it my friend 🙂

  33. Hey KIt M .Lau
Started this diet nine days ago only lost 3 pounds have not cheated Followed the recipe to the T am I not eating enough spup . I have it for my breakfast dinner tea supper is the anything else I should be doing . I’m in my late 50s does that make a difference

  34. Im going to start this next week; my friend is starting today.
Just wanted to clarify – on day 1-3 it clearly says if you can have fruit or veggies (or both), but day 4-7 it only lists banadas, tomatos or veggies being incorporated – besides whats listed on those 4 days, can we also add other fruits and veggies??

  35. Hi, I am familiar with the diet but the first time I tried it years ago, there was no skimmed milk involved. I know this because I’m lactose intollerant and would definitely remember that being there.

Unfortunately I can’t find that recipe and directions so I can’t say what exactly was on the previous one I did.

Could I substitute with soy milk? Specifically Silk Very Vanilla Soy Milk?

    • I’m guessing you could if there’s calcium in the milk, because in the diet plan, it says that you need the milk for calcium.

  36. Also, could I substitute the tomatoes with cabbage ? I heard it does the same effects on the diet. I’m asking this because I want to do it for two weeks, and I’d like a different kind of soup. Reply soon x

  37. Hi..!!! I have been on this diet now for 3 months. I was 128 lbs and now I go between 108 and 109. IT HAS TRULY CHANGED MY LIFE and I WANT TO THANK YOU – THANK YOU- THANK YOU.
It says if you do it indefinitely you will experience malnutrition. I was taking plant based vitamins from GNC faithfully but I’ve been out for about a week. It couldn’t cause any more malnourishment for me than the peanuts and protein bars I used to eat. I’m only 5’2″ so I feel I could legitimately go down to 100 lbs and still be healthy. I lose one pound a week now but I drink flavored coffee mate and don’t run a lot like I used to. I’m sure I could knock another 5 pounds off easily and quickly if I tried. My job is very physical however. I lift 5 and 8 pound weights and workout a few times a week for to keep a tight round butt and my legs in shape.

  38. I guess my thing is.. I don’t know how to go off of this diet. I don’t have any cravings and I’m getting in better and better shape all the time. I think it keeps me from getting sick and as long as I get more vitamins why couldn’t I stay on it…

  40. Hello, how much soup will the ingredients and recipe make? My husband and I are doing this together, so I’m wondering if I need to double and if you need to make this soup every couple of days or will that recipe last the whole week?

  41. I would just double it and it should be plenty for you and your husband for at least one week. If anything, adding more vegetables and broth to this won’t affect the caloric intake.

  42. Is there a non dairy milk i can drink instead of skim milk I have a severe lactose and casin issue.

Also can I substitute brown rice for quinoa… LOL I have a severe rice problem.

Im 1 of those people with 37 serious to severe intolerances.
